Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to 1-3 in Northeast Conference play in Friday afternoon's 72-45 loss to Merrimack at the Spiro Sports Center.
Junior Paige Lyons led the way with 14 points on the day, with junior Rakisha Ballinger joining Lyons as double-digit scorers with 12 points of her own.
While Wagner held an early lead, it saw its advantage dissipate by quarter's end, falling behind 13-8 in a tightly contested first period. From there, Merrimack controlled the tempo of the contest as the Seahawks struggled to find the bottom of the net.
Overall, the Green & White shot 30.4% from the field while converting on 15 of their 18 chances from the charity stripe. Freshmen Kiera Edmonds and Drew Jordon, and Lyons all went perfect at the line.
With the defeat, Wagner fell to 4-12 and 1-3 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Warriors improved to 5-13 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the road victory.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Sunday, January 21, when they host Sacred Heart. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
