Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team clinched its sixth conference series victory with a 10-1 win over Stonehill in Sunday's series finale.
Senior Maimu Kobayashi got Wagner off to a lead that it wouldn't relinquish as he homered to lead-off the rubber match. Senior Griffin Selby added to the lead on an RBI groundout in the first.
Leading 2-0, sophomore Mateo Matthews launched a no-doubt home run to right center to put the Seahawks ahead by five. Junior Chris Conniff then padded Wagner's lead with a single through the right side.
More runs came in the fifth inning courtesy of Kobayashi and junior Ariv Camacho. Senior Henry Martinez put a stamp on the contest with a two-run pinch-hit homer to right field in the eighth inning.Â
While the offense tallied 15 hits, the pitching staff allowed just four hits from Stonehill.
Junior Julian Taudin-Chabot pitched six innings and allowed just two hits. The Cheney, WA native struck out six en route to his second win of the season.
Sophomore Zach Gorman and graduate student Alec Burnett pitched in relief, allowing just two baserunners via hits. Burnett pitched the ninth, striking out the final three batters to secure the series victory.
The Seahawks are closing in on their first Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament berth since 2019. They have a chance to clinch their spot in their next series against Norfolk State, which starts on Friday, May 12 at 3:00 pm.
