Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team used an 11-run fourth inning to cruise to a midweek victory over Saint Peter's, 13-2.
After the Seahawks opened up the game up 2-0, the Peacocks responded by tying the game up in the top of the fourth inning. But as the lineup card turned the Green & White began to pour it on.
The Seahawks scattered ten hits across the half inning. The fourth hit via senior Cody Bey gave Wagner back the lead. The runs kept on coming after Bey's single through the right side.
Senior David Melfi scored two runners on a base hit to left center. Senior Griffin Selby then continued to swing a hot bat with a three-run blast to left field, making it a 8-2 game.
As Saint Peter's made a pitching change, the Seahawks continued to attack.
Sophomore Mateo Matthews and junior Ariv Camacho tallied back-to-back RBI singles. A balk then scored an additional run before junior Chris Conniff bookended the inning with a two-RBI double to left center.
The offensive clinic by the Seahawks was much-needed as the game went scoreless the rest of the way.
Freshman Will Saxenmeyer got the start and pitched three no-hit innings. In relief, five Wagner pitchers combined for a scoreless 5.2 innings, allowing just six baserunners in the process.
After a stretch of six non-conference games the Seahawks will begin a three-game series against Northeast Conference (NEC) newcomer Stonehill starting on Friday, May 5.
