Charlottesville, VA | Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner College men's and women's track & field teams split over the weekend as the Seahawks sent some athletes to the UVA Challenge, hosted by the University of Virginia, while the remaining competed at the Rutgers Relays.
At the UVA Challenge, senior Dominic Palermo had the best finish for Wagner. Palermo ran the 3000M steeplechase in 8:58.11, earning himself fifth place. Current Northeast Conference (NEC) Track Athlete of the Week junior Jason Marchese brought home sixth place in the 400M dash, Marchese crossed the finish line with a time of 47.63.
The next best finish for the Green & White was by junior Anthony Bentivegna in the 10000M run. Bentivegna is the current record holder at Wagner in the 10000M, at the UVA Challenge, he received fourteenth place with a time of 30:20.07.
At the Rutgers Relays, the women's team received plenty of top ten finishes. The Seahawks best finish was by senior Mia Milton, she finished sixth in the 400M dash with a time of 57.99, and graduate student Sara Rutherford followed behind for a seventh place finish at 58.05.
Sophomore Ruth-Ann Chambers placed fourth in the 100M hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.93.
The 4x400 relay team of Mia Milton, Sara Rutherford, Ruth-Ann Chambers, and junior Ana Blanco Duran finished in second place with a time of 3:55.55, which leads the Northeast Conference (NEC).
In the field, freshmen Elisa Parazzi placed fifth in the high jump, with a mark of 1.61M. Sophomore Madison Petricevic launched the javelin 34.63M for an eighth place finish. Senior Bridget Damon earned sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.45M.
As for the men, freshman Arjanvir Singh ran the 400M dash in 49.92 for a fifth place finish.Â
Fellow freshman Ashton Barnes completed the 100M dash in 11.06, and the 200M dash in 22.38, for a tenth and eighth place finish, respectively.
In the field, freshman Eskil Njerve earned fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.63M, meanwhile junior Ryan Lane received a mark of 4.48M, for a fifth place finish in the event.
Freshman Dario Sina de la Fuente launched the javelin 55.17M for a sixth place finish.
Graduate student Michael Pepe earned bronze in the discus and eighth in the hammer throw. Pepe's discus throw landed at a distance of 53.40M and the hammer landed after 47.87M in the air.
Current NEC Field Athlete of the Week Corey Durden also earned a third place finish but in the shot put. Durden's mark landed at 17.87M. Durden also received seventh in discus at 47.59M and ninth in the hammer throw at 49.44M.
Next up, both men's and women's track & field will be traveling to Philadelphia, PA for the 128th annual Penn Relays from Thursday, April 27th to Sunday, April 30th.Â
