Easton, PA - Sophomore Katerina Cervenkova of the women's fencing program clinched a program first by making it to the semi-finals of pool play in the épée competition at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals at Lafayette College on Saturday.
Making her second appearance at regionals in as many years with the program, Cervenkova made history by emerging as a top four contender in her pool. Overall the sophomore placed 18th out of 36 épée competitors.
Fellow épée fencer freshman Sofia Lopez Meneses placed tied for 29th, earning one victory in pool play. In the foil competition, sophomore Alex Cole tied for 34th place.
For the sabre bouts, sophomore Simona Nedyalkova placed tied for 32nd and earned one victory in pool play, while freshman Fanny Straub came in 34th place.
The Seahawks will await to hear if they have sent any fencers to the NCAA Championships, which will take place from March 23-26 at Duke University.
