Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's fencing team hosted the annual Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational on Sunday at the Spiro Sports Center.
Before the event, the Seahawks honored the four seniors in the program.
The Seahawks earned three victories in five events at the tournament.
Wagner began the day with a 23-4 victory over CCNY as Wagner earned 9-0 victories in the sabre and épée competitions. Wagner earned a tight 5-4 victory in the foil bout behind the tiebreaking victory from Anastasia Nardone.
In round two, Wagner defeated Yeshiva, 25-2 as senior Lauren Foley and freshman Sofia Lopez Meneses went 3-0.
Round three against Drew was a tight race across all three competitions, but in the end Drew prevailed over Wagner, 14-13.
Wagner fell to Drew 14-13 in the third round of the day as freshman Fanny Straub went 3-0 in the sabre competition. The Rangers defeated the Sehawks 5-4 in the épée and foil competitions.
Wagner dropped its round four contest to Lafayette 14-13. Wagner earned victories in the sabre and épée competitions behind sophomores Simona Nedyalkova and Katerina Cervenkova. Lafayette earned a 7-2 victory in the foil bout.
The Green & White defeated Hunter 19-8 to close out the meet. The Seahawks earned a 7-2 victory in the sabre bout before earning 6-3 victories in foil and épée bouts
Wagner will travel to Teaneck, NJ to take part in the FDU Invitational on Sunday, February 12.
