Geneva, OH - The Wagner swimming & diving team competed in two races to begin the NEC Championships on Tuesday, with the women taking home first place in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The team of freshmen Presley Staretz and Aura Vilarrasa, sophomore Annie Jencova and senior Olivia Bishop set a program record with a time of 7:22.49 to take home the gold in the event.Â

On the men's side, the freshmen team of Leo Benevedes, Brayden Schaeffer, Kaan Nalcaci and Ruben Van Gool placed third in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team's time of 6:43.99 broke the school record.
This also marked the first podium placement in the history of the Wagner men's program at the NEC Championships.

Benevedes, who went first on the relay, also broke the school record in the 200-yard freestyle.
The programs will be back in action Wednesday for the second day of the NEC Championships.
