Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team suffered a Northeast Conference (NEC) 78-68 loss at LIU on Saturday afternoon.
Wagner came out firing as they shot 10-19 from the floor in the first quarter behind six points from fifth year senior
Kem Nwabudu, who finished the first with six points on 3-4 shooting.
Entering the second quarter, Wagner held a 20-15 advantage over LIU before the Sharks outscored the Seahawks 13-10 in the second. Redshirt junior
Alex Cowan tallied six points in the second frame on 2-5 shooting. As a team, Wagner tallied 10 points in the second quarter as they took a 30-28 lead into halftime.
LIU put a stamp on the contest in the third quarter as they outscored Wagner 24-16 behind 9-14 shooting from the field and 4-7 shooting from three-point range.
10 of Wagner's 16 points in the third quarter came from inside the paint.
Down six heading into the fourth quarter, Wagner cut the Sharks lead down to 68-66 but the Sharks closed the game on a 10-2 run to earn the victory.
The loss brings Wagner to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in NEC play.
Alex Cowan led all Wagner players with 19 points on 7-14 shooting while graduate student
Zhaneia Thybulle recorded 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Thursday, February 16 when they host CCSU at the Spiro Sports Center, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
