Taleah Washington's game-winning shot with two seconds remaining lifted the Wagner College women's basketball team to a 69-67 win at Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks outscored the Seahawks 20-13 in the opening 10 minutes. Taleah Washington and freshman Drew Jordon led the Seahawks with four points each.
Wagner battled back in the second quarter as they doubled the Peacocks with 16 points to their eight. Taleah Washington nailed two three pointers on back-to-back possessions to give Wagner a 29-28 lead into halftime.
The Peacocks regained its lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Seahawks 25-13. Junior Paige Lyons launched two three-pointers in the third as she tallied eight points in the frame. Saint Peter's held a 53-42 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Down 63-58 with 2:26 remaining in the fourth quarter, Paige Lyons tallied an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the lead to three. After missing the free throw, the Peacocks corralled the rebound before Drew Jordon stole an errant pass and found junior Semie Brar for a layup to bring the score to 63-62.
Drew Jordon went on to sink two free throws to tie the game at 64 after the Peacocks went 1-2 from the free-throw line at the other end.
WIth the game tied at 67, Taleah Washington launched the game-winning shot before Wagner got a stop on the defensive end to earn the victory.
Washington finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the contest. Drew Jordon tallied her second consecutive double-digit scoring effort with 13 points as Paige Lyons also tallied 13 points.
Wagner will be back in action on Sunday, December 10 as they travel to New York, NY to take on Columbia at 2:00 pm.
