New York, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at Columbia, 79-50, at Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions opened the contest on a 10-2 run through the opening 5:27 of the first quarter. Junior Paige Lyons tallied a three-pointer to end the run as Lyons went on to tally 11 first quarter points for Wagner. The Atlanta, GA native also had two steals in the opening frame.
Holding a 22-13 lead entering the second quarter, Columbia went on to outscore Wagner 25-15 in the second quarter, taking a 47-28 lead into halftime.
Wagner tallied 12 third quarter points as graduate student Taleah Washington led all scorers with seven points in the frame, Paige Lyons scored five points in the frame. Washington and Lyons combined to shoot 4-6 from the field and 2-3 from distance in the third.
Holding onto a 67-40 lead entering the fourth quarter, the Lions outscored the Seahawks 12-10 in the final frame to earn the victory.
Paige Lyons led all Seahawks with 18 points on 6-13 shooting from the field and 2-4 shooting from three as she also tallied six assists and four steals in the contest.
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, December 16 when they welcome Maryland Eastern Shore to the Spiro Sports Center, tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
