Madison, NJ - The Wagner men's and women's fencing team competed at the Drew Invitational on Sunday. The women's team went 5-1 on the day, while the men's team finished 4-2.
For the women, it was sophomore Fanny Straub who recorded the best winning percentage, going 14-1. On the men's side, freshman Flavio Vinci continued his strong start to the season with a 17-1 record.
Against FDU, the women's team swept both the sabre and épée competitions while also emerging victorious in the foil competition, 6-3.
Their winning ways continued as they defeated Cleveland State, Lafayette and the hosts Drew. Each victory featured a sweep from a different weapon (Foil, Cleveland State; Épée, Lafayette; Sabre, Drew).
The Seahawks dominated Yeshiva, 24-3, before dropping their lone contest of the day to LIU.
Eight fencers recorded double-digit victories. Freshman Morrigan Adams led the way with 15.
The men kicked off their first dual meet of the program's history with a narrow 14-13 victory over Drew. Freshmen Isaac Oden and Vinci each went 3-0 in their respective sword draws.
Another narrow victory over the Vikings of Cleveland State preceded the program's first team loss to Lafayette College. A second loss to Drew followed for the men before the team rattled off two straight victories over Yeshiva and LIU to close out the Drew Invitational.
Wagner will be back in action for another dual meet next Sunday, November 12 at the Vassar Invitational.
