Women’s Basketball Falls At Hofstra In Overtime

Hempstead, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference overtime contest at Hofstra, 51-48, on Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra outscored Wagner 14-4 in the opening frame. The Seahawks shot 2-12 from the floor in the opening 10 minutes.

Both teams tallied 11 points in the second quarter as sophomore Angelie Ricard led the way for the Green & White with four points. Hofstra took a 25-15 lead into halftime.

The Seahawks got right back into the contest in the third quarter as they outscored the pride 23-8 in the frame. Junior Paige Lyons exploded for 14 points in the frame on 5-7 shooting from the field and 2-2 shooting from three-point range. Wagner's signature defense was on display in the third as the Green & White tallied five steals. Wagner had a lead as large as eight throughout the third quarter.

The Seahawks took a 38-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Pride outscored the Seahawks 10-5 in the fourth quarter. Hofstra had possession of the ball with 9.8 seconds remaining in regulation but were unable to get off a shot as the Seahawks' defense forced overtime.

Wagner tallied just five points in overtime as Hofstra was able to escape with the victory.

Paige Lyons was the lone Seahawk to score in double figures with 14. Angelie Ricard tallied nine points on 4-10 shooting while graduate student Taleah Washington poured in seven assists.

Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, November 18 when they travel to Newark, NJ to take on NJIT at 1:00 pm.
