Easton, MA - The Wagner College field hockey team earned a trip to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament on Friday with a 3-0 win at Stonehill.
This will be the third consecutive NEC Tournament berth for the program.
Freshman Floortje Leunisse got Wagner on the board 1:35 into the contest before graduate student Sara Nelson doubled Wagner's lead 5:01 into the opening frame.
Early in the second frame, freshman Puck Schenk stopped a penalty stroke opportunity from Stonehill to keep the Skyhawks off the board. Graduate student Laura Van Hamburg gave Wagner a 3-0 lead 9:21 into the second quarter as the Seahawks took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
In a scoreless third quarter, the Seahawks registered one shot on goal by freshman Charlotte Muller. The Seahawks remained ahead 3-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
Puck Schenk kept the Skyhawks off the board in the final 15 minutes of the contest to preserve the shutout for Wagner. Schenk tallied four saves in the victory.
Wagner will play host to the NEC field hockey tournament on Friday, November 3 and Sunday, November 5. The semifinals will be at 11 am and 2 pm on November 3 and the championship game will be on November 5 at 12:00 pm.
