Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest to Fairfield 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
In the opening quarter, the Seahawks out shot the Stags 4-2 but Wagner was unable to find the back of the net. Instead, the Stags were able to take advantage on one of its two shots to find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Wagner out shot Fairfield 3-2 but both sides were held scoreless in the second as Fairfield took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman Puck Shenk stopped both shots she faced on target in the third quarter keeping the Stags at one goal. Wagner tallied five shots in the third while generating two penalty corners.
Wagner was able to tie the game early in the fourth quarter as freshman Floortje Leunisse found senior Shaelyn Kobyrnich across the net and Kobrynich fired in the goal. The goal was Kobrynich's third goal in the last four contests for Wagner.
Fairfield took a 2-1 lead with 9:12 remaining in the contest as they held on for the 2-1 victory.
Wagner will be back in action on Sunday, October 15 when they welcome Towson at 12:00 pm.
