NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Wagner College field hockey team scored a season-high nine goals in its seventh conference win of the season at Duane Stadium on Friday night.
With the win, the Seahawks (8-6, 7-0 NEC) earned at least a share of the NEC's regular season title. This is the third time in program history that the Green & White have earned the regular season title after being co-champions in 2022 and outright champions in 2024.
Wagner locks up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2026 NEC Tournament held on the campus of Wagner College. The semifinal round of the postseason tournament is set for Thursday, Nov. 5.
As a team, Wagner's nine goals is the second-most in one goal in recorded program history. The program's record of 10 goals was set back on October 28, 2021 as the Seahawks hit double-figure against the Merrimack Warriors.
On Friday, seven different Seahawks scored with senior Natalie McGivern recording her first collegiate hat-trick on four shot attempts. Along with McGivern, freshman Mylee Retherford, freshman Gabrielle Childs, sophomore Julia de Leeuw, sophomore Kayla Sykes, junior Erika Parker, and senior Floortje Leunisse all tallied goals for the Green & White.
The Seahawks took 23 shots with 17 on the cage and earned 13 penalty corner opportunities. The Warriors (1-13, 1-6 NEC) attempted six shots with four on target, and earned four penalty corners.
In goal, senior Mia DiGenova saved four shots in three quarters to improve to 7-2 on the year. Freshman Miley Brezgel took over in the fourth quarter to ensure the shutout. Wagner jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Next up, the Green & White host Big East member Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Field Hockey Complex. Start time between the Seahawks and the Wildcats is set for noon on Grymes Hill.
