Dover, DE - The Wagner women's soccer team attempted 32 shots in its 1-0 victory at Delaware State on Thursday evening, marking the most shots in a game under head coach Phil Casella since the beginning of his tenure in 2017.
It was the most shots attempted in a game for the Seahawks since August 25, 2016, when the team fired off 26 shots in a 5-0 win over Saint Peter's. The 32-mark is also tied for the third-highest total among Northeast Conference (NEC) members this season.
Although just one shot found the back of the net, it was enough to earn Wagner its third victory over its last four games.
Graduate student Madison Carr scored the lone goal of the contest in the 11th minute. Carr, along with fellow graduate student Juliana Rafaniello, paced the Seahawks with six shots apiece.
Junior Olivia Rubbo had five shots on the night, while senior Kayla Barbosa, and freshmen Sara Wiedeman and Jess Maraia collected four shots apiece.
Coupled with Wagner's fierce offense was formidable defense by way of junior Sam Hughes. In her fifth clean sheet of the season, which have all resulted in wins, the Pottstown, PA native made four saves on the night.
The Seahawks sit in a tie for fourth place on the NEC leaderboard heading into their penultimate home game on Sunday, October 15 against Sacred Heart. The pivotal matchup is scheduled for kickoff at 1:00 pm.
