Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest to Drexel 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
In a scoreless first quarter, Wagner generated two shots while holding Drexel to zero. The Dragons managed to create one penalty corner opportunity while holding Wagner to zero.
In the second quarter, freshman Charlotte Muller opened the scoring in the contest off a pass from senior Natalie Rocuskie. Muller's first collegiate goal came 2:20 into the second quarter. Eight minutes later, the Dragons were able to tie the game as the game entered halftime tied at one. Drexel out shot Wagner 9-5 in the second frame as freshman goalkeeper Puck Schenk stopped four shots for the Seahawks.
In a high-scoring third quarter, Drexel took a 2-1 lead 10:50 into the second half before Shaelyn Kobrynich tallied the game-tying goal with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter. Kobrynich's goal was assisted by junior Rebecca Desiderio.Â
Drexel took a 3-2 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter as that third and final goal went on to be the difference in the contest.
Wagner will be back in action on Friday, October 6 when they welcome Northeast Conference (NEC) member Merrimack at 4:00 pm.
