Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team earned its fifth consecutive home victory with a 80-63 win over LIU.
In a close first quarter, senior
Drayah Heyward tallied eight of the Seahawks' 13 points on 2-2 shooting from the field and 4-4 shooting from the free throw line.
Despite a strong opening quarter from Heyward, the Sharks entered the second quarter with a 15-13 advantage.
The Seahawks put a stamp on the contest in the second quarter, as they outscored LIU 30-15 behind 13-20 shooting from the field.
Junior
Julia Fabozzi tallied 13 points in the frame behind 6-6 shooting from the field.
Wagner held a 43-30 advantage entering the second half as Fabozzi and Heyward combined for 30 of Wagner's 43 points.
Wagner shot 5-12 in the third quarter as they scored 14 points, LIU tallied 15 points on 5-7 shooting.
Entering the fourth quarter, Wagner held a 57-45 advantage and was able to hold on for the victory.
The victory moved Wagner to 3-0 in NEC play and 8-6 overall this season.
Julia Fabozzi tallied a career-high 22 points on 9-13 shooting and 3-4 shooting from deep as
Drayah Heyward also tallied a career-high 20 points.
Heyward also tallied five steals.
Redshirt junior
Alex Cowan tallied 16 points in the win.
