Rob Taylor II scored a game-high 17 points, as the Wagner College men's basketball team earned a wire-to-wire 72-50 victory over Central Connecticut on Friday night at the Spiro Sports Center.
With their second straight win, the Seahawks even their Northeast Conference (NEC) record at 3-3 and improve to 10-7 overall, while the Blue Devils fall to 4-16 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
The Seahawks led for 37:52 minutes and held the Blue Devils to 1-16 (6.3%) from long range and 16-46 (34.8%) shooting from the field throughout the contest while outscoring CCSU 44-24 in the paint.
Offensively, Taylor's 17 points came on 7-11 shooting as the Seahawks converted on 30-63 (47.6%) of field goals on the night. Senior
Darrius Hughes added 10 points off the bench, while sophomore
Zaire Williams contributed nine points.
Wagner jumped out to a quick lead in the first half, as a bucket by Taylor gave the Seahawks a 24-12 advantage with 5:18 to play in the first half.
Leading 28-16 at the half, the Seahawks scored 44 points in the second half to pull away, with nine players scoring at least one field goal during the period.
The Seahawks held a 36-34 edge on the glass and totaled 17 assists throughout the game.
