Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team earned its third straight victory with a 68-58 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center.
Sophomore
Rob Taylor II and junior
Rahmir Moore led the Seahawks with 19 points apiece, while sophomore
Zaire Williams added 12 points off the bench. Senior
Brandon Brown led all players with 11 rebounds.
Taylor finished the week with two double-digit outings and converted on 74% of his shots throughout the two games.
As a team, the Seahawks shot 26-47 (55.3%) from the field while holding the Pioneers to 20-49 (40.8%) throughout the contest.
The Seahawks jumped out to a double-digit first half lead, as a pair of Taylor free throws gave Wagner its biggest lead of the period at 24-13 with 6:17 to play in the first half, before the Pioneers cut the Wagner lead to 33-24 at the half.
Wagner came out firing in the second half and opened up a comfortable lead, as a three by Moore gave Wagner its biggest lead of the game at 59-44 with 6:01 to play.
The Pioneers, however, fought back and cut their deficit to 61-58 with 2:30 to play on a Nico Galette three.
Wagner answered, as a bucket by Moore and a three by Williams put the game away, with the Seahawks closing out the game on a 7-0 run.
The Seahawks held a 35-21 edge on the glass and led for 35:44 minutes.
With the win, Wagner improves to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Pioneers fall to 11-11 on the year and 4-3 in NEC action.
