Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College cross country teams will kick off their respective seasons at the Stony Brook season opener this Saturday.
Start time for the women is scheduled for 10:30am, with the men set for 11:15am.
The Seahawks will be going for their third men's cross country title in the last four years after Wagner finished second overall with 68 points at last season's championship race.Â
For the fourth time in the last five years, Wagner garnered a top two Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason poll spot as the Seahawks tied for the top spot with Central Connecticut, the league office announced on Monday.Â

Leading the charge on the course this season will be All-NEC selections Dominic Palermo and
Johnny Sokoll. At the 2021 NEC Championships, Palermo placed tenth overall with a time of 26:31.10 while Sokoll placed among the top-14 harriers with a time of 26:43.50.
For the women, Anna Blanco Duran who paced the Seahawks at the 2021 NEC conferenceÂ
championships, finishing among the top-ten, with a time of 18:51.1 in the 5K race, will be making a return this year.Â
Junior Elizabeth Szambel and senior Sara Cascio also placed in the top 50 at last year's conference meet and will provide valuable experience on a young Seahawk squad.Â
The Green & White returns to Long Island when they will race at the LIU Invite on Friday, September 9.Â

Wagner will have a couple of weeks off before returning to the course on Friday, September 30 as they will run at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.Â

The 2022 IC4A/ECAC Cross Country Championships is set for Friday, October 14 and will be raced at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.Â

The Seahawks conclude the year at the 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) Cross Country Championships, which will be contested in Loretto, PA and hosted by the Saint Francis University Red Flash.
