The Wagner women's lacrosse team claimed a crucial conference victory over Sacred Heart, 9-8, over Sacred Heart on Wednesday, April 20 at Hameline Field.
The Seahawks opened the contest with a flurry of chances while Pioneers goalkeeper Bella Beaton stopped eight shots in the opening stanza as Wagner took 16 shots. Sacred Heart opened the scoring when Emma Kittredge fired a shot passed senior goalkeeper

Kelsey Scheidel gave Wagner its first lead of the game at 4-3. The run concluded with a goal from freshman
Sophia Colver to double the Wagner lead.
The Seahawks took a 5-3 lead into the halftime intermission as they out shot the Pioneers 26-5 in the first half.
Kelsey Scheidel opened the scoring in the second half with her second goal of the contest, it was the third consecutive game the Islip, NY native tallied multiple goals. The Pioneers launched a 3-1 run to end the third quarter as the game went to the final stanza with Wagner holding a 7-6 advantage.
Sacred Heart tallied the first two goals of the final stanza giving them an 8-7 lead before senior
Maria Henwood tallied her first goal of the evening off a pass from graduate student
Stefani Peluso with 6:10 remaining in regulation. Senior
Kasey Dorney converted on an individual effort to give Wagner a 9-8 lead with 1:07 remaining in the contest. The Seahawks held on to claim the victory over the Pioneers.
The Seahawks outshot the Pioneers 42-16 and had 30 shots on goal to Sacred Heart's 12. Wagner also tallied 20 ground balls, including four from senior
Aileen Hannan, who recorded her 100th career ground ball as a member of the Seahawks.

Kelsey Scheidel Claims NEC Honors
After a strong week last week with six goals, one assist, seven points, 10 shots, and three ground balls,
Kelsey Scheidel was named an NEC Prime Performer on Monday afternoon, the first NEC recognition of her career.
The Islip, NY native tallied a career-high four goals against #13 Rutgers on Wednesday, April 13 and followed with two goals against Merrimack this past Saturday. In 11 games played and four starts this season, the sophomore has eight goals with one assist, eight ground balls and 10 draw controls.
The sophomore followed her strong performances last week with a three point effort against Sacred Heart on Wednesday evening.
Seahawk Milestones
Stefani Peluso earned her 100th career point in the NEC opener against Central Connecticut State on March 26 behind four goals in the contest. Classmate
Madeline Seims tallied her 150th career point as a member of the Green & White against LIU on March 30. For Seims, she moved into sole possession of seventh place in career points and is fourth in career goals with 136.

Aileen Hannan was the latest Seahawk to garner an individual accomplishment as she notched her 100th ground ball for Wagner.
Historic NEC Run
Wagner has reached the NEC title game in every season since 2014 while claiming a championship in 2016, 2018, and 2019. During the run to seven consecutive title games, the Green & White have finished second in the regular season in 2021, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, and 2014. Wagner entered the 2017 NEC tournament as the #3 seed. In 2014, the Seahawks entered the season picked seventh in the preseason poll and claimed second in the regular season and earned a trip to the conference championship game.
Wagner currently sits at 4-2 in conference play and tied for third place with Merrimack.

The Bison welcome Wagner with a 1-13 overall record and an 0-5 mark in NEC play. Junior Quai Ridley-Skeete leads Howard with 19 goals and 23 points.
