Seahawks Drop Middle Game At Mount St. Mary's On Saturday

Emmitsburg, MD - The Wagner baseball team dropped the middle game of their three-game Northeast Conference (NEC) series at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, falling to the Mountaineers 7-1. 
 
Lukas Torres led the Wagner offense with his fourth multi-hit game of the season as he finished 2 for 3. A day after driving in a career-best five RBI, Griffin Selby brought in the lone run for Wagner (4-20; 2-3 NEC) finishing 1 for 4 at the plate. 
 
Dante Faicchio, Matteo Matthews, and Xavier Baker each added a hit for the visitors on the afternoon.
 
Daniel Merkel (0-4) went five innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out a career-high eight batters. 

Thomas Bramley and Matt McTighe each had two hits for the Mountaineers (5-16; 1-4 NEC) with Bramley driving in three RBIs. Tristan McAlister, Tyler Long, Tyler Grodell, and Efrain Correa, Jr. also added RBIs in the win for Mount St. Mary's. 
 
Luke Pryor (1-1) went the distance in earning his first win of the season, as he allowed one run on six hits, walked four, and struck out six batters. 
 
The game was in a scoreless deadlock until the bottom of the third when Bramley singled through the right side that score both McAlister and Correa, giving the home team the early 2-0 lead. 
 
Following a scoreless fourth, Mount tacked on two more scores in the bottom of the fifth building a 4-0 lead. McTighe led off the frame with a double down the left-field line and stole third before coming into score on the McAlister RBI single back up the middle. 
 
With two outs, Bramley connected on a solo home run to left-center as the Mountaineers upped the lead to four. 
 
In the bottom of the seventh, McTighe singled to left and moved the second on the sacrifice bunt by McAlister. McTighe found himself on third following a throwing error by Jagger Duquette
 
Long singled to center field brought in McTighe made it 5-0 before Grodell sent an RBI single to right-center to plate home Long as Mount St. Mary's went ahead 6-0. 
 
The home team added one more score in the bottom of the eighth. Brady Drawbaugh led off the inning with an infield single and found himself at third following a sacrifice bunt and second error by Duquette on the failed pickoff attempt. Correa sent a single to right-center which made it 7-0. 
 
The lone Seahawk run came in the ninth as with one out, Selby connected on his second home run of the series, a solo shot to left field. 
 
The series finale is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday afternoon.
