Emmitsburg, MD - A trip to the 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship game is on the line as the No. 4 seeded Wagner College Seahawks will look to return to the finals as they take on the defending league champions, the No. 3 seed, Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Thursday evening from Knott Arena.

These two programs met in last year's finale, with Mount St. Mary's earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

OPENING TIP... Tournament Edition
  • The 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) semifinals are next on the horizon for the Wagner College women's basketball team as the No. 4 seed Seahawks travel to the No. 3 Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Thursday evening in a rematch of the 2021 NEC Championship game.
  • Wagner advanced with a 66-55 home triumph over the No. 5 seed LIU, while the Mountaineers got past Saint Francis U at Knott Arena, 69-53.
  • For both head coaches, Wagner's Terrell Coburn and Mount's Antoine White, it was their first NEC Tournament victory.
  • All-time, this will be the third time that these two teams will meet in the semifinals and first since 1999-00, when the No. 6 seeded Seahawks topped the #1 Mountaineers, 61-57, under head coach, Tara Gallagher.
  • Prior to that meeting, Wagner and Mount St. Mary's meet in the 1992 edition of the tournament, as the Seahawks dropped a 61-47 decision.
  • Wagner is 1-3 all-time against Mount St. Mary's in the NEC Tournament.
  • Mount St. Mary's escaped with a 53-51 win the last time these two teams faced off at Knott Arena.
  • Wagner is a top-four seed for the second straight season. The Seahawks have not posted consecutive top-four finishes since the mid-to-late 90s, when they were the No. 3 seed in 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1998-99.
  • Wagner is 4-1 in their last five games, outscoring their opponents 64.0-58.0 while forcing 19.2 turnovers (+3.4)
  • Of teams that have won at least one NEC Tournament championship, Wagner has suffered the longest drought. The Seahawks' last NEC Tournament title came in 1988-89, 33 years ago.
  • Of the seven current members that have won an NEC Tournament championship, Wagner and LIU (2000-01) are the only teams to have just one title to their name.
  • This is the first time in NEC Tournament history that three NYC metro teams are hosting quarterfinal games. FDU, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Wagner are are each top four seeds.
