Baseball Falls At Rutgers On Tuesday Afternoon

Piscataway, NJ - The Wagner College baseball team dropped its first midweek game of the season, falling to Rutgers 18-1. 
 
Junior Nick DeCarlo (0-1) got the ball to start for the Seahawks (1-9) and took the loss.
 
At the plate, the Seahawks were led by Maimu Kobayashi, who connected on his first career home run while finishing 1 of 2 at the plate with two walks. 
 
David Melfi, Quinn Mimnaugh, and Xavier Baker each had a hit in today's contest. 
 
Evan Steight led the way for Rutgers with four hits and drove in three RBIs. Danny DiGeorgio went 3 of 3 at the plate with four runs scored and dove in five RBIs for Rutgers. 
 
Wyatt Parliament (1-0) earned the win after throwing three innings of one-hit ball in which he walked two and struck out two batters. 
 
The Scarlet Knights relievers allowed three hits over the final six innings in which they combined to strike out six batters without allowing a run. 
 
Kobayashi led off the game with a solo home run to left field. 
 
The Scarlet Knights took the lead in the bottom of the inning as DiGeorgio connected on the first of six Rutgers home runs, as the home team took a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second off four home runs, with DiGeorgio hitting his second home run of the contest, this one bringing in three runs as Rutgers went ahead 8-1. 
 
The Scarlet Knights tacked on two more in the top of fourth to make it 10-1. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Rutgers plated eight runs on seven hits, as Jordan Sweeney delivered a three-run home run to left-center field that made it 18-1. 
 
The Seahawks will gear up to take on the #4 ranked Vanderbilt University Commodores for a three-game set, beginning on Friday, March 11.
