Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's basketball team closes out the 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season on the road, as the Seahawks travel to North Andover, MA to take on the Merrimack College Warriors at Hammel Court on Thursday evening. 


OPENING TIP... 2022 Northeast Conference Tournament At-A-Glance..
  • Playoff implications are still on the line for the Seahawks..
  • The Seahawks have already clinched a Quarterfinal home game, which is set for Monday, March 7, at 7:00 PM.
    • A win, combined with a Mount St. Mary's loss, will give Wagner the No. 3 seed in the upcoming tournament. 
    • A loss, combined with a Mount St. Mary's win, will move the Seahawks to the No. 4 seed. 
    • Fairleigh Dickinson has clinched the No. 1 seed and the NEC regular season title
    • St. Francis Brooklyn has secured the No. 2 seed. 
    • Saint Francis U takes the No. 5 seed with a win or a LIU loss.
    • LIU earns the No. 5 seed seed with a win and SFU loss.
    • Bryant wraps up the No. 7 seed and avoids the opening round gam with a win OR with a loss if Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut also lose. 
    • Sacred Heart slots in at No. 7 with a win and a Bryant loss OR with a loss, provided Sacred Heart losses and Central Connecticut wins.
    • Bryant or Sacred Heart will host the opening round game against Central Connecticut, which is locked into the No. 9 seed. 
  • The Seahawks knocked off first-place FDU, 63-59, on Thursday evening, as four scored in double-figures, led by Katrice Jackson, who matched her career-high with 14 points. 
  • Bryant enters the contest looking to halt a three-game losing streak after dropping a 70-66 home decision to St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday evening. 


SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST MERRIMACK...
  • Thursday's contest marks just the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams, with the series knotted at 2-2. 
  • The Warriors earned a 68-57 back on January 23 at the Spiro Sports Center to even the series. 
  • Wagner is 2-1 in North Andover, taking both matchups last season, 56-43 (Jan. 29) and escaping Hammel Court with a 74-68 overtime victory the very next day. 

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS...
  • Merrimack, who is ineligble for the NEC postseason due to NCAA reclassification regulations, sport a 9-16 overall record and are 7-10 in the league. 
  • They recently snapped a four-game losing streak when they defeated the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 76-66, at Hammel Court last Saturday. 
  • Tenesia Brown led four Warriors with a game-high 22 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the field to go along with eight rebounds. 
  • Jayme DeCesare recorded a double-double, finishing with 12 points and ten rebounds while playing the full forty minutes. 
  • Three Merrimack players are averaging double-figures, led by Kate Mager, who is pouring in 12.7 points per game. Mayson Kimball is next at 12.0 points per game while Brown is chipping in 10.7 points per game. 
  • Collectively, the Warriors are the second-highest scoring team in the NEC, pouring in 64.0 points per game, but have given up the most at 70.2 points per game. 
  • The Warriors are second in the circuit in field goal percentage, shooting the ball at at a 40.9 clip while converting on 33.4 percent from the outside, good for third.

  • Of the 25 first-year head coaches in the NCAA this season, Wagner's Terrell Coburn ranks sixth with a .577 win percentage while tying for the sixth-most wins this season with 15.

FINALE... 
  • In the last ten regular season finales, the Seahawks are just 2-8. 
  • In the CoVID shorten season a year ago, Wagner snapped a 5-game losing streak in the season finale after outlasting eventual league champions, Mount St. Mary's, 73-68, in double-overtime.  
  • Prior to last season's triumph, the last time the Seahawks won the regular season came on Mar. 2, 2015, as the Green & White defeated former league members, Robert Morris, 66-60, in Moon Township, PA.

  • In Wagner's 15 wins this season, the Seahawks are outscoring their opponents by nearly 11.0 points a contest (63.8 to 53.0).

  • EKG is 13th on the all-time Wagner scoring list, as she now stands with 1,266 career points. Next up on the list is recent Wagner Hall of Famer, Carrie Walker, who finished her Seahawk career with 1,288 career points. 
  • The senior forward is rapidly approaching ethcing her name on the all-time career field goals made list, as she currently stands at 532.
  • Currently, Cynthia Quinlan (1986-1990) occupies the eighth spot on that list with 534 career made field goals. In terms of career attempts, EKG has recorded 1,188 attempts. 
  • Nwabudu is rapidly approcahing the 1,000 career point plateau, as the Elmont, NY native has amassed 952 career points between her time at Winthrop and Wagner. As a member of the Seahawk, she has netted 384 career points. 
  • Both Nwabudu and Krista Grava have reached the 500+ career rebound plateau in the careers. Nwabudu has snagged 223 during her time at Wagner and 552 overall while EKG has corralled 547 over her four-years on Staten Island. 
  • The all-time mark belongs to Mary Gormley (1977-1981), who finished her career with 1,297. Carrie Walker (2000-2004) currently sits in ninth place on the list with 813 career boards.

  • The NEC Women's Basketball Tournament will consist of an nine-team playoff format with games played at campus sites. After the quarterfinals, the teams will be reseeded so the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.
  • NEC Tournament quarterfinal play commences on Saturday. March 5 with an opening round game (#9 at #8). Quarterfinal play commences on Monday, March 7, followed by the semifinal round on Thursday, March 10. The championship game will be contested on Sunday, March 13 at 12:00 pm. All quarterfinal games will air on NEC Front Row. The semis will air on NEC Front Row, ESPN3 and SNY. The final will be telecast on ESPNU.
