Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team will travel to the West Coast for five games at UC Santa Barbara this weekend.
The Seahawks will take on New Mexico and UC Santa Barbara on Friday, before taking on the Gauchos and Santa Clara on Saturday. Wagner and Santa Clara will close out the tournament on Saturday with a single game.
Despite being the farthest away from Grymes Hill this weekend, the five games will be in familiar territory for a majority of Wagner's roster, which features 10 players from California.
Last weekend, Wagner picked up its first two wins of the season over Morgan State and Hampton.
For their efforts in the two wins, senior
Eve Harvey and sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd earned NEC Prime Performer honors.
Harvey earned both of Wagner's wins in the circle, while Lloyd led the team with five hits, two runs scored, and one RBI, improving her average to a team-leading .375.
On the season, 12 Seahawks have already recorded at least one base hit for Wagner, as the Green and White recorded a season-high six runs and 11 hits in Sunday's victory over Hampton.
New Mexico enters the weekend with a 10-3 record, while UC Santa Barbara comes into the tournament with a 3-12 mark. Lastly, Santa Clara comes into March with a 10-9 record.
Following this weekend, the Seahawks will play their first game in New York State with a single game at Fordham on March 9.
