Emmitsburg, MD - The lone game on the schedule this week for the Wagner women's basketball team is a rematch of last season's Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, as the Seahawks head to Emmitsburg, MD to face off against the defending league champions, Mount St. Mary's, on Thursday evening. 
OPENING TIP...
  • Both teams, who were picked 1 and 2 in the preseason poll, are tied for third in the league standings at 7-5. 
  • The two teams are looking for their third straight wins after picking up a pair of a road triumphs. 
  • Wagner has a win in hand over the Mountaineers on the ledger after their Dec. 31 matchup was cancelled due to CoVID-19 protocols within the Mount St. Mary's program. 
  • Thursday's tilt features the top shooting three-point team in the conference (Mount St. Mary's) and the top three-point shooting defensive team (Wagner). 
     
EKG AND LOCENIECE GARNER NEC WEEKLY HONORS...
  • The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced on Monday afternoon that Wagner forward Emilija Krista Grava has been named NEC Co-Player of the Week while teammate Lina Loceniece garnered NEC Rookie of the Week honors. 
  • This marks the second time this year that the Latvian-born players have each earned the accolade on the same day, as the duo earned the award on December 13, 2021.

SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST MOUNT...
  • Wagner and Mount St. Mary's will be meeting for the 68th in program history with the Mountaineers holding a 48-19 edge in the head-to-head series. 
  • Thursday's matchup is a rematch of last season's NEC Championship game. Wagner took the season series, 2-0, but the Mountaineers captured the league title and moved on to the NCAA's. 

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS...
  • The Mountaineers are looking for their straight win after taking a pair of road contest this past weekend, taking the season series over Merrimack and Bryant. 
  • Kendall Bresee, the reigning NEC Player of the Year, netted her 1,000th career point against the Warriors. 
  • Bresee leads the Mountaineers in almost all statistical categories, as she is pouring in 15.7 points per game while pulling down 7.6 rebounds and dishing out 4.5 assists a contest. 
  • Michaela Harrison is the team's second-leading scorer at 11.4 points game. 
  • Collectively, the Mount leads the NEC in scoring, averaging 65.8 points per game but, is ranked sixth in scoring defense, allowing 64.8 points per game. 
  • Thursday's contest with Wagner features the league's top shooting programs, with the Mountaineers hitting at a 44.4 percent clip while Wagner is next at 40.5 percent.

  • Of the 25 first-year head coaches this season, Wagner first-year bench boss, Terrell Coburn, ranks sixth with a .619 win percentage and tied for the sixth-most wins with 13.

WINNING WAYS…
  • In Wagner's 13 wins this season, the Seahawks have outscored their opponents by 11.6 points per game, as the Seahawks offense has put up 63.8 points per game while yielding just 52.2 points per game. 
  • The Green & White have shot the ball well, connecting for 43.4 percent from the floor while hitting on 38.6 percent from three-point range. The opposition, however, has been held to just 36.2 percent shooting and on 21.1 percent from long distance (50-237). 
  • The Seahawks have accounted for nearly 10.0 steals per game in these 13 wins, while forcing 20.2 turnovers per game.

  • The Green & White have forced 20.3 turnovers away from the Spiro Sports Center, while dishing out 12.2 helpers in these contests. 
  • Krista Grava and Nwabudu are each scoring in double-figures away from Grymes Hill, with Krista Grava scoring 10.9 ppg and Nwabudu adding 10.1 points, respectively.

  • Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava became the 25th member of the 1,000 point club on November 28 against New Hampshire.
  • Krista Grava, who recorded the milestone feat with 59.2 seconds showing on the clock in the second quarter, finished the game with 11 points while also grabbing five rebounds.
