Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's basketball team earned a 76-68 victory over Hofstra on Saturday at the Spiro Sports Center.
Wagner jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the opening quarter before Hofstra responded with a lengthy 9-0 run to end the opening frame.
The Pride took a 19-18 lead into the second quarter as redshirt junior
Alex Cowan led the offensive attack for Wagner with seven points.
Wagner outscored Hofstra 17-13 in the second quarter as junior
Julia Fabozzi led the offensive attack for Wagner with six points on 2-3 shooting from three-point range.
Wagner took a 35-32 lead into halftime.
Hofstra opened the second half on the offensive as shot 47.1% from the field while outscoring Wagner 20-12 in the frame. Hofstra held a 45-36 lead before Wagner made a late push to bring the deficit to five entering the final frame.
With Hofstra holding a 52-47 lead, Wagner outscored Hofstra 29-16 behind 7-13 shooting from the field. The Seahawks also shot 4-6 from three-point range behind
Alex Cowan going 2-2 from deep.
Cowan tallied 14 points in the final frame to help lead Wagner to its first home win of the season.
Along with her 14 fourth quarter points, Cowan finished with 25 points which ties her career-high that was set at Maryland on November 5, 2019.
Sophomore
Lina Loceniece tallied 12 points and three assists on 2-4 shooting from three while
Julia Fabozzi tallied 11 points.
Graduate student
Zhaneia Thybulle tallied nine points, eight assists and four rebounds in the win.
The Seahawks will host Saint Peter's at the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 P.M.
