Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest 75-62 to Brown in its first game of the season at the Spiro Sports Center.
In the first quarter, Wagner came out with 19 points behind 3-5 shooting from three-point range. The Seahawks defense held the Bears to 12 points.
Brown flipped the switch in the second quarter, outscoring Wagner 18-13. Seahawk freshman Angelie Ricard tallied eight points while going a perfect 2-2 from three-point land. Wagner took a 32-30 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Brown outscored Wagner 22-11. Sophomore
Lina Loceniece tallied five points for the Seahawks.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears outscored Wagner 22-19. Fifth year senior
Kem Nwabudu tallied her 1,000th career point in the frame. The Elmont, NY native became the 26th member of the Wagner women's basketball program to eclipse 1,000 career points.
Despite the heroics from Nwabudu, the Bears held on to earn its first win of the season, 75-62. The loss drops Wagner to 1-2 on the young season.
Lina Loceniece tallied a team-high 17 points while the Seahawks had four players score in double figures.
Wagner will continue its non-conference slate on Wednesday, November 16 when they take on Maryland Eastern Shore at 6:00 P.M.
