New Rochelle, NY – The Wagner women's basketball team suffered a 87-62 loss at Iona for its first loss of the season.
Iona opened the contest by outscoring Wagner 21-6 in the opening quarter. After Wagner took a 6-4 on a jump shot from fifth year senior
Kem Nwabudu, the Gaels ended the quarter on a 17-0 run.
In the second quarter, Iona continued to apply pressure as they outscored Wagner 25-15.
Iona took a 46-21 lead into halftime as redshirt junior
Alex Cowan led the way for Wagner in the first half with seven points while graduate student
Zhaneia Thybulle tallied five.
Wagner came out firing in the third quarter as they outscored Iona 20-15 behind 9-16 shooting.
Kem Nwabudu led the way in the third with six points on 3-4 shooting to go along with four rebounds. Sophmore
Rakisha Ballinger tallied two assists in the quarter.
Iona outscored Wagner 26-21 in the final quarter to preserve the victory.
Alex Cowan led all Seahawks with 11 points while
Kem Nwabudu recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior
Drayah Heyward tallied six points and four rebounds.
With 10 points, Nwabudu is six points away from reaching 1,000 for her career.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Sunday, November 13 when they welcome Brown to the Spiro Sports Center for its home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M.
