Field Hockey Set To Take On Fairfield In NEC Semifinal

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner field hockey team will take on Fairfield in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Semifinal.

Playoff History
This is the second consecutive season the Seahawks will play in the NEC tournament. In its first-ever appearance last season, the Seahawks fell to LIU 2-0.

The Green & White will be seeking its first playoff victory in program history.

About The Tournament
This is the third time since 2019 that Wagner will play host to the NEC tournament. The previous two times, Fairfield was crowned NEC Champions after a 2019 title game victory over Rider and a 2021 title game victory over LIU.

Wagner will welcome Rider, Fairfield, and Saint Francis U to Grymes Hill for the tournament as the top seeded Rider Broncs will take on Saint Francis U at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 5 while the Seahawks will take on Fairfield at 2:00 P.M.

The NEC Championship game will take place on Sunday, November 6 at 12:00 P.M.

Regular Season Champions
With a win over LIU in the regular season finale, the Seahawks captured a share of the NEC regular season title for the first time in program history. The 2022 season was a season of firsts for the Seahawks.
 
Wagner eclipsed double-digit victories for the first time in program history and earned the most conference wins in program history. The Seahawks have also been stifling at home with a 8-1 recorded on Grymes Hill.

Julia Cruces Pastorino Earns NEC Offensive Player Of The Year As Four Seahawks Earn All-Conference Honors

Graduate student Julia Cruces Pastorino of the Wagner field hockey team earned NEC Offensive Player of the Year as four Seahawks earned All-Conference honors, the conference announced on Wednesday. 

Along with being named Offensive Player of the Year, Cruces Pastorino was named to the All-NEC First Team for the second season in a row.
 

Joining Cruces Pastorino on the First Team are classmates Agustina Deharbe and Laura Van Hamburg. Last season's NEC Rookie of the Year Liselotte Koop rounded out Wagner honorees on the First Team as Koop earned First Team honors for the second season in a row.

Julia Cruces Pastorino becomes the first Wagner field hockey player to earn an individual honor outside of Rookie of the Year. Former Seahawk Hannah Meyer earned NEC Rookie of the Year in the team's inaugural season in 2019 while Koop earned the honor last year.

Cruces Pastorino earned NEC Offensive Player of the Week this season, as well as being named a Prime Performer three times.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina native finished second in the NEC in shots with 67 and shots per game with 3.94 while finishing fourth with nine assists, 11 goals, three game-winning goals and 38 shots on goal. She also finished third with 31 points. She also led the Seahawks in goals, assists, points, shots and shots on goal while finishing second in minutes played.

Cruces Pastorino currently is the all-time program leader in points and goals.

Agustina Deharbe becomes the first Wagner field hockey player to earn NEC All-Conference honors three times and this is the second time she was named to the First Team. She has been named to the First Team in the spring season of 2021 and 2022. Last season, she was named to the Second Team. The program's all-time assist leader finished tied for second on the team with seven goals and four assists. Deharbe was named a Prime Performer on two separate occasions this season.
 

Laura Van Hamburg earns her first-ever All-NEC honor after being with the program since its inaugural season in 2019. Through four seasons as a Seahawk, she has started in all 52 games she has appeared in. Van Hamburg led the Seahawks with four game-winning goals, including the game-winning goal against Fairfield on October 21, a goal that clinched a playoff spot for the Seahawks.

Van Hamburg finished tied for second on the team in goals, assists and points.

Liselotte Koop earns her second straight First Team honor after finishing tied for second on the team in goals and assists. The Hattem, Netherlands native finished third on the team in points and minutes played. Koop was also named a Prime Performer on two separate occasions this season.

About Fairfield
The defending NEC champions are looking to become the first team to repeat since Rider won four straight NEC titles from 2009-2012.

The Stags also collected a number of All-NEC honors as graduate student midfielder Nora Amme was named NEC Player of the Year and named to the All-Conference First Team.

The Stags had four players on the All-Conference Second Team as graduate student Frances Mirabile, junior Carmel Van Dijk, sophomore Madison Milhous and freshman Konni Hoffman earned the honors.

The NEC Championship game will take place on Sunday, November 6 at 12:00 P.M. at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex on NEC Front Row and ESPN3.
