Swimming & Diving Completes Fairfield Invite This Weekend

Fairfield, CT- The Wagner men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed the Fairfield Invite to open the season this weekend.

Aura Vilarrasa hit the wall second in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke at 2:22.32. In her collegiate debut, she also placed third in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:05.69. Lia Vendel placed third in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke in her collegiate debut with a time of 1:16.32. In the 800 SC Meter Freestyle, Taylor Marjamaa finished third and touched the wall at 9:43.94. 

Annie Jencova took first place in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle, hitting the wall at 59.53. Jencova also posted a 2:11.06 in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle and finished second. Abbie Hassell also had a second-place finish, touching the wall at 27.95 in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle. 

In the 200 SC Meter Butterfly, Maile Mora finished fourth at 2:29.20 and Raquel Rubalcava Reyes finished fifth at 2:29.21. Meliti Efthimiou placed third in the 3 Meter Diving event with a score of 203.90 and placed seventh in the 1 Meter event with a score of 198.05.

On the men's side, Ruben Van Gool finished third in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 8:53.34. The freshman also placed fifth in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 55.00. Van Gool then placed second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 4:15.47. 

Russell Gavino hit the wall fourth in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke at 1:07.03. The freshman then placed third in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:27.78. Brayden Schaeffer and Andrew Ehret finished sixth and seventh, respectively in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke in their collegiate debut. 

Kaan Nalcaci won the 200 SC Meter Backstroke, hitting the wall at 2:11.31. His second win of the day came in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 57.92. Nalcaci also placed third in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly at 2:12.21. Carter Green placed third in the 1 Meter Diving event with a score of 185.55 and in the 3 Meter event with a score of 188.35. 

Wagner is back in the pool next Saturday, October 15 for a tri-meet with Iona and Sacred Heart in New Rochelle, NY.
