Women’s Tennis Completes Hofstra Invite

Hempstead, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team completed the Hofstra Invitational this weekend.

The event featured teams from the Atlantic 10 (A10), Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and the Northeast Conference (NEC).

"It was great for our team to play hidden duals," said first-year head coach Lena Babunski. "We have two dual matches coming up this month and getting our freshmen the experience of the format should prepare them nicely to compete under the pressure of team tennis."

Sophomore Paula Uy collected her first win of the year on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brooklyn Samuels of host Hofstra.

Uy and doubles partner Mia Groetsch fell in a tiebreaker on Sunday to Hofstra's Garbino and Kaitlyn Ferguson 7-6 (5)

"The team grew from Saturday to Sunday," said Wagner Director of Tennis, Jeff Menaker. "They competed well on every court. Give credit to our opponents for gutting out some close matches. This is still a young team and if they put in the work at practice, many of these close matches will turn around come spring."
