STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner women's tennis team defeated Le Moyne on Saturday, winning their last home match of the season 4-1, and picking up their second consecutive conference victory.
The Seahawks initially fell behind in the match after losing the doubles point. Only senior
Samantha Bentsianov and sophomore
Liepa Sataite were able to take a doubles match in the round, as they won 6-3 on court 3.
Wagner bounced back in the singles round however, starting with Sataite's straight set win on court 2. Sophomore
Victoria Madail followed that up with a straight set win of her own on court 1 (6-2, 7-6 (2)), finishing off her second set with a 7-5 win in a tiebreaker set. Bentsianov grabbed the third point of the match after coming back from a set deficit to win on court 3 (3-6, 6-3, 6-3), then freshman
Hannah Fitzgerald secured the victory with another win in a tiebreaker set on court 6 (6-2, 7-6 (5)), capping off the Seahawks 4-1 win.
With the win, Wagner improved to 3-1 against NEC teams, with less than two weeks until the NEC Tournament starts.
The Seahawks will return to the courts on Sunday, April 5, when they travel to Old Westbury and take on the LIU Sharks for their last conference match of the season.
