Corel Sets New School Record In 500m At Great Dane Classic

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Great Dane Classic, hosted by the University at Albany at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. 
 
Thomas Corel took sole possession of the men's 500m indoor school record, as he turned in an IC4A qualifying mark of 1:03.08 in finishing the event in first place. 
 
Teammate William Cuthbertson also produced an IC4A time in the mile, placing second overall with a time of 4:08.44 to highlight the men's performances. Additionally, Cuthbertson elevates to the top spot in the conference in the mile. 
 
Track Results… 
  • In the finals of the 60m, Eric Griffin was among the top-five finishers, clocking in with a time of 7.21
    • Teammate Logan Murphey finished among the top-20 with a time of 7.32. 
  • The Seahawks occupied three spots among the top-ten in the 400m as Joshua Cadet finished fifth overall with a time of 49.35
    • Jason Marchese was next with a time of 49.41 followed by Cyril Babcanec, who placed ninth overall with a final time of 49.75. 
      • Cadet and Marchese now stand in third and fourth, respectively, on the Northeast Conference (NEC) Performance List while Babcanec remains in sixth following his best time at the Wagner Invitational (49.54). 
  • Michael Hubert finished seventh overall in the 800m with a time of 1:54,94.
    • For Hubert, he moves into third on the NEC Performance List in the event, behind Cuthbertson (1:49.51) and LIU's Lucas Fernandez (1:53.57). 
    • Luke Cunningham concluded the race in with a time of 1:56.17 
      • Cunningham becomes the fifth Seahawk to place among the top ten on the NEC Performance List in the event. 
  • Newcomer Jean Uminski clocked in with a time of 8:28.58 in the 3000m, while teammates Anthony Bentivegna (8:33.42) and Johnny Sokoll (8:39.83), were among the top-20. 
    • Uminski moved to third overall on the league list while Bentivegna remains in fifth and Sokoll cracks the top-10.
 
Field Results…
  • Corey Durden and Adrian Pocesta turned in a top-ten and top-20 performance, respectively, in the weight throw.
    • Durden placed sixth with a toss of 16.42m while Pocesta was able to launch the weight 13.58m.
    • Both competitors improved their standings on the NEC list, with Durden moving up to sixth and Pocesta in 12th.

  • Wagner is scheduled to compete in the Metropolitan Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held on February 4 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
