Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team welcomes Saint Peter's to Hameline Field for its home opener on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

Opening Kicks…
  • Wagner began the season with a thrilling 3-2 road triumph at Rider (Aug. 20).
  • The win marked the first time since 2013 that the Green & White was victorious on opening night. Ironically, that win was against Wednesday's opposition, Saint Peter's (3-1), in Jersey City, NJ.
  • The Seahawks are looking for back-to-back wins to kick off the year for the first time since that 2013 season, when the club rattled off an impressive four straight victories (@ Saint Peter's, vs. Fairfield, vs. Holy Cross and @ Howard).
  • Saint Peter's was defeated in their season opener, 1-0, last Friday at home by fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member, St. Francis Brooklyn.

All-Time Series…
  • Wednesday's contest marks the 23rd all-time meeting between the two schools, with Wagner holding a slim 11-10-1 advantage in the head-to-head series.
  • The Seahawks are riding a seven-match winning streak over the Peacocks, dating back to August 21, 2011, when Wagner earned a 1-0 triumph in double overtime on the road.
  • Over the last seven meetings, the Seahawks offense has been on full display, outscoring Saint Peter's by a 22-5 margin, which includes scoring two or more goals in each of the last six contests.
  • Wagner is 6-4-0 all-time at home against SPU, earning a 5-0 victory back on August 25, 2016 at Hameline Field.
  • Saint Peter's last victory against Wagner came on August 28, 2009, a 2-0 decision.

Carr & Roe Earn Conference Weekly Honors…
  • Junior forward Madison Carr was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Emma Roe was tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week.
  • This marked the first time since November 3, 2014 that a pair of Seahawks took weekly honors from the league on the same day, joining former standouts Megan Fritz and Katie Marcy, who won Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Impressive Debuts…
  • Carr and Roe quickly made an immediate impact for the Seahawks' offense. The two connected on the first goal of the match in the early stages of the second half. Rider tried to move the ball, but Roe was able to create a counter attack opportunity for the visitors.
  • Roe spotted a well-timed pass to Carr, who dribbled the rest of the way before sending a left-footed strike to give Wagner the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 71st, Carr struck again as she motored past her defender and found the right spot to record her second goal of the match. Sophomore Mia Tessier brought up the ball on the right side and crossed it to Carr, who leaped over defender and headed the ball past the keeper to push Wagner's lead to 3-1.
  • For Carr, she became the first Seahawk to record two or more goals in a match since Maria Nunez did so back on August 25, 2019 against Delaware State. Additionally, the Perryville, MD native is the first Wagner player to score twice in a match on opening night since 2003.
  • In all, six newcomers saw action in the season opener – Carr, Kayla Barbosa, Roe, Tessier, Jocelyn Billingsly, Claire Janis, and Kylie McNally.
Up Next…
  • The Seahawks conclude the home-stand on Sunday afternoon, August 29, as they welcome Manhattan to Grymes Hill.
  • Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
