Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College softball team will host Sacred Heart for two games on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Both games will air live on NECFrontRow.
Thursday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for April 11, but postponed due to inclement weather.
In the first two games of the series, the Seahawks dropped two tightly contested games to the Pioneers. In game two against SHU, freshman
Keaghan Ward hit her first collegiate home run, while junior
Natalie Del Ponte made it back-to-back home runs by sending the first pitch of her at-bat over the left field fence.
Del Ponte will look to continue her recent success, as the junior homered three times in four games against Fairleigh Dickinson. Overall, Del Ponte has hit all of her five home runs this season in the last nine games while collecting 10 RBIs in Wagner's last eight games. For her success against the Knights, Del Ponte was named an NEC Prime Performer.
Graduate student
Zoe Bender continues to lead the Seahawks with a .372 average and 32 hits. For her career, Bender is just four hits away from 150 career hits and six hits away from breaking into the Top-10 in program history.
In the circle, junior
Eve Harvey struck out a career-high 11 batters on her way to the complete game victory against FDU in the first doubleheader of the series, while fellow junior
Kayla Hooks earned her first victory of the season after going the distance one day later.
The Pioneers enter the series with the fifth-best record in Northeast Conference (NEC) play at 8-14 in league action. The Seahawks are currently 7-15 in league action in a tightening race for the four-team NEC postseason.
Following the midweek series, the Seahawks will travel to Central Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday.
