Staten Island, NY – For the first time since November 3, 2019, the Wagner College women's soccer team returns to Hameline Field for their home opener on Tuesday evening against Fairleigh Dickinson.
SEAHAWK BREAKDOWN...
- Wagner opened the 2021 campaign on Sunday, February 28 at NJIT, falling to the Highlanders, 1-0.
- Wagner was picked fifth in the 2020-21 Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason coaches' poll.
- The 2020 Seahawks return 16 student-athletes, including senior Le'la Allen, junior Luisa Barone, and soophomore Annie White, all of whom tied for second on the 2019 squad in goals.
- Fourth-year head coach Phil Casella announced that Allen, Barone and sophomore Maddie Wilde will serve as team captains this season.
- Casella welcomes ten newcomers to the mix this season.
- Also new to Grymes Hill is Jenna Bracken, who will serve as assistant coach this season after completing a stellar four-year collegiate career at Kutztown University.
HOME OPENERS...
- All-time, Wagner is 4-21-2 in season openers.
- The Seahawks' last victory on opening day came back on August 23, 2013, when the Green & White traveled to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member Saint Peter's and defeated the Peacocks, 3-1, in Jersey City.
ALL-TIME AGAINST FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:
- Wagner and FDU will be meeting for the 21st time in program history with the Knights holding a 11-6-3 advantage in the head-to-head series.
- Back in 2019, these two squads played to a 0-0 draw.
- Mya Donnelly led the way with four shots, with two of those on target.
- Teammate Luisa Barone recorded three shot attempts while Julia Fitzsimmons took two shots with one on net.
ABOUT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:
- The Knights were picked to finish second in the league.
- FDU opened the 2021 NEC season with a 5-1 loss on the road at Hofstra on February 25, then posted a 1-0 shutout against Sacred Heart in their NEC opener last Tuesday, March 2.
- Cassandra Marcoux was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after her stellar performance against Sacred Heart, where she made 11 saves.
- Madelyn Robbins netted the only goal in the Sacred Heart win.
- Robbins and Cayla Waterman each have goals for the Knights, while Isabelle Udovc has the lone assist.

- Wagner will hit the road for a pair of matches, the first on Tuesday, March 16 as the Seahawks travel to Merrimack before wrapping up the two-game road trip at Sacred Heart on Friday, March 19.
