STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner women's soccer team dropped its season opener to Rider, 1-0, Thursday night on Hameline Field.
The contest remained tight throughout, with Rider finding the back of the net in the 16th minute for the lone goal of the match.
Wagner recorded 15 shots, including five on goal, while Rider finished with six shots and two on target. Junior forward Kelly Gallagher led the Seahawks with four shots, including two on goal, while junior defender Hailey Knapp, sophomore forward Riley Frederick and sophomore midfielder Madeline Hayes each placed one shot on target.
The Seahawks also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Wagner returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 16, when it hosts Monmouth at Hameline Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
