Philadelphia, PA | Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner women's fencing team will open its 2021 fall season this weekend with a pair of competitions. The Seahawks will first head to Philadelphia, PA to compete in the Temple University Open. Wagner returns to the Empire State on Sunday, as they will be in action at the Shark Tank Invitational, hosted by LIU.  

Last Season...

• The Seahawks competed just once last season, two out of their three scheduled contests were postponed due to COVID-19. 
• In their lone match, the Green & White split dual meets at Drew University.
• In the sabre weapon, graduate-student Abby Buckborough won all three of her bouts, giving Wagner the victory. Buckborough also went 3-0 in the first round of the day, finishing her day with an undefeated 6-0 record.

From The Coach...

• Head Coach Gabby Chau enters her second season at the helm and can't wait for her team to compete this weekend. 
• "I have high expectations for the team and we are all excited to get things going this weekend."

About Wagner... 

• The 2021 roster features a solid mix of veterans and newcomers, as they welcome four newcomers in Zoe Beale, Katerina Cervenkova, Alex Cole, and Simona Nedyalkova.
• The Temple Open marks the fourth time in program history that the Seahawks will open the season the City of Brotherly Love. 
• The tournament will feature over 30 schools and over 500 student-athletes fencing. 
• When the Seahawks compete at LIU on Sunday, it marks the first time since 2018-19 they will be sparring at the event. 
• Back in 2018-19, Wagner won three matches over LIU, Hunter College and Fairleigh Dickinson. 

• The Seahawks will head to nearby Madison, NJ for the Drew Rangers Fall Invitational, hosted by Drew University. 
• The competition is set for Sunday, October 31.
