Softball Readies For Hampton Invitational

Norfolk, VA - The Wagner College softball team will play a total of five games at the Hampton Invitational this weekend.

The Seahawks will play Drexel and UMBC on Friday at Norfolk State, Binghamton and Hampton at Hampton on Saturday, before facing off with Norfolk State on Sunday.

Wagner is 2-3 on the season after starting the season with a 5-4 victory over Wright State and a 9-4 victory over Cleveland State at the Scotsman Invitational.

For her performances in week one, senior Kaila Smith was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Player of the Week. Smith opened the season on fire, hitting three home runs and picking up six RBIs in five games at the Scotsman Invitational.
The senior slugger needed just two games on the season to move to third all-time in school history in home runs, passing Kelsey Parker '15. With 24 career homers, Smith is nine home runs away from Victoria Batistelli's ('08) mark of 33 and 10 away from all-time leader Andrea Lazzari '09.

Apart from Smith, freshman Bianca Worthy was recognized as an NEC PrimePerformer after recording a .533 average on eight hits through the first five games of her collegiate career.
In the pitching circle, sophomore Eve Harvey started the year with a 2-0 record, striking out a team-high seven batters in 17.1 innings so far this season.

Through five games, the Wagner lineup features eight players who have started every game, while six Seahawks are batting .300 or higher in Worthy, Smith, senior Hannah Lewis (.375), senior Christina Harkins (.333), sophomore Nora Conway (.316), and senior Kyleigh Norris (.714, 5-7).

Drexel enters the weekend with a 1-4 record. The Seahawks and Dragons split a doubleheader in Philadelphia during the 2018 season, while UMBC comes into Friday's game with a 4-7 record.

Binghamton sits at 1-10 this season, while Hampton sits at 12-3 on the year. Norfolk State is currently 5-8 this year.

Following this weekend's games, the Seahawks will fly to California to play five games at Loyola Marymount, starting on March 14.
