Garb Nets Third Straight Multi-Goal Game as Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Manhattan

Staten Island, NY – Jake Garb recorded his third straight multi-goal game while Nick Warren and Ryan Whelpley each won more than 60 percent of their face-offs for the Wagner men's lacrosse team, but the Manhattan Jaspers came away with a 16-5 win at Hameline Field this afternoon.

Warren, Matt McAnaney and Tyler Lawton joined Garb as goal-scorers for the Seahawks while Nic Ancona added a pair of assists. Both Warren and McAnaney's goals were their first of the season, while Lawton's goal gave him a team-high six on the season.

Brandon Grinnell and Trevor Pelletier each had four goals for Manhattan while Luke Hanson added nine assists. Brendan Krebs stopped 14 shots in net for the Jaspers.

For Wagner at the face-off X, Warren finished 9-for-14 while Whelpley finished 7-for-10.

How It Happened:
McAnaney answered an early goal from the Jaspers, getting the rebound on his own shot and finding the back of the net. Warren won all five face-offs in the first quarter for Wagner, but the home team managed just McAnaney's goal as Manhattan built a 3-1 advantage. The Jaspers added five more in the second quarter, taking an 8-1 lead to the locker room.

Warren won the opening face-off to start the second half and took care of business himself, beating Krebs just 13 seconds after the whistle. Manhattan added two more before Garb netted his first of the day. The Jaspers added three more to close out the quarter.

Garb and Lawton opened fourth quarter scoring with back-to-back goals just over a minute apart, both assisted by Ancona, to close out the Seahawks' scoring for the afternoon.

Elsewhere for the Seahawks, Nick Azzopardi scooped up a game-high five ground balls and caused a turnover while Tommy Scarpello caused a pair of turnovers and gathered a pair of ground balls. Danny Brady and John Wright added eight saves combined for the Green and White.
