North Andover, MA – The Wagner College men's basketball team will make its first ever trip to new Northeast Conference (NEC) member Merrimack on Saturday in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Playoff Scenario
Despite Friday's loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, the Seahawks are still only two games out of a playoff spot, trailing Bryant for the final spot in the NEC Tournament. Wagner still plays its direct competition in Central Connecticut (1-12), Bryant (4-8), and St. Francis Brooklyn (4-8) with six games remaining in the regular season.
Nesby's Career Night
Sophomore
Tyrone Nesby IV scored a career-high 25 points against FDU, while his eight rebounds also tied a career-high. For Nesby, it was his first 20-plus point game of his two-year collegiate career and the first time he made 10 or more field goals in a game.
Ford Picking Up Speed
Elijah Ford scored a career-high 21 points in last Saturday's game vs. SFU, hitting 8-11 from the floor. After averaging 1.2 ppg over his first five NEC games, Ford has produced 15.0 ppg over his last seven contests, once again contributing 15 points against FDU on Thursday night.
Sharing The Ball
Coming into the week, Seahawks and Robert Morris were the only two teams in the conference to have two players in the top-10 in assists per game. Junior
Alex Morales entered this week seventh with 3.57 assists per game, while junior
Chase Freeman came in ninth in the circuit at 3.32 assists per contest.
Scouting The Warriors
Merrimack, in its first season in the NEC, is flying high at 17-9 overall and 7-2 in the NEC. The Warriors, who are not eligible for the postseason due to their transfer from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, are coming off a 60-50 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday. At home, the Warriors are 7-2 overall.
Next Up For Wagner
Following Saturday's game, the Seahawks will host Mount St. Mary's for a rare Tuesday matchup, with tip-off set for 7:00 PM.
