Game Notes Wagner

New Britain, CT – The Wagner College men's basketball team will travel to Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon, looking to finish the week with a victory, following a convincing win over LIU on Monday and loss at Bryant on Thursday night.

Busy Schedule
Saturday's game marks the fourth game in seven days for the Seahawks. A win over the Blue Devils would help Wagner to a 2-2 record over that span. After Saturday's contest, Wagner will play just one game over an 11-day period, giving the Seahawks time to recover from a busy Northeast Conference (NEC) schedule.

Dynamic Duo
Cobb and junior Alex Morales continue to pace Wagner offensively and are among the top scorers in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Cobb entered the week fourth in the league with 17.3 points per game and contributed 18 points on Thursday night, while Morales came in tenth in the NEC with 14.5 points per game.
Ford Picking Up Speed
Junior Elijah Ford has earned two straight starts in replacing the injured junior Nigel Jackson and has made the most out of the opportunity. Ford scored 16 points on Monday against LIU and followed up his performance with a season-high 19 points in the Seahawks' loss at Bryant. Ford has now scored in double figures six times this season and increased his average by more than one point over the last two contests to 7.9 points per game.
Calm At The Line
In a tight Northeast Conference matchup, free throws can make the difference. The Seahawks entered the week with three players in the top-15 in free throw percentage, as Cobb is second in the league at 83.3%, while junior Elijah Ford checks in at 10th in the league at 75.7% and Morales sitting in 15th in the league at 71.6%. Wagner and Sacred Heart are the only two teams in the league with three players in the top-15 in that category.

The Series
Wagner holds a 30-19 lead in the all-time head-to-head series, which began in 1939, and includes consecutive wins over the Blue Devils last season. The Seahawks earned an 80-58 road victory in the NEC opener for both teams at Detrick Gymnasium before knocking off the Blue Devils 63-57 at the Spiro Sports Center just a few weeks later to earn the sweep.

Scouting The Blue Devils
CCSU enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-20 record, including an 0-8 mark in NEC play. The Blue Devils' lone victory on the season came over Connecticut College. On Thursday night, CCSU suffered a 82-54 loss to Sacred Heart.

Suits And Sneakers
Wagner head coach Bashir Mason and his staff were be seen on the sidelines wearing sneakers to support Coaches vs. Cancer during the last two games and will continue supporting the cause this Saturday. Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week is a nationwide event that unites basketball coaches across the country for a common cause – saving lives from cancer. Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness, helping to save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.2019-2020 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers games will support childhood cancer research, services, and awareness, as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children.
Next up For Wagner
Following Saturday's matchup, Wagner will play host to Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, January 30, at 7:00 pm, which kicks off a three-game homestand for the Seahawks.
