Ilya Kneppelhout of the Wagner men's tennis team was named the Wagner 2018-19 Businessman of the Year presented by Lee, Nolan, Koroghlian, LLC, A MassMutual Firm.
The award is presented to the graduating student-athlete with the highest grade-point average in a business related field. Kneppelhout, a four-year member of the men's tennis program, posted a cumulative GPA of 3.965 in Business Administration.
Kneppelhout concluded his four-year Seahawk career, serving as team captain this season while guiding Wagner to its second-straight Northeast Conference (NEC) title match appearance. The Woubrugge, Netherlands native clinched the semifinals match against Fairleigh Dickinson that propelled the Green & White to the championship round.
The senior Seahawk racked up 40 career singles wins, good for fourth on the all-time career wins list. In regards to doubles play, Kneppelhout earned 64 doubles victories, the second-most in program history since 2005.
A 2016 All-NEC Rookie Team selection, Kneppelhout has also enjoyed academic success, being named to the NEC Academic Honor and Commissioner's Roll in each semester he has competed.
Kneppelhout becomes the second Seahawk to receive this award and the second Wagner tennis player to be recognized, as he joins former Wagner women's tennis standout, Samantha Hodges '18,
who was honored last year.
On hand to represent Lee, Nolan & Koroghlian, LLC was Recruiting Director, Tracey Goldstein, Agency Managing Director, Michelle Cutler, and General Agent,
Dominick Iorio, a name that should sound familiar to Seahawk fans as he is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame after a stellar Cross Country and Track & Field career, which spanned from 1978-1982.
