STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Wagner College men's tennis team will open its 2025 fall season this weekend at the NEC Individuals in Binghamton, NY from Friday, September 19 to Sunday, September 21 at the Lane - Starke Tennis Center.
The Seahawks return seven student-athletes to the upcoming roster in – sophomores Vibhu Challagundla, Eddie Schmidt and Joshua Zhao, seniors Sebastian Dobson, Kunsh Moolchandani and Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez, and graduate student Gabriele Zugarelli.
Head Coach Jeff Menaker welcomed three new players to the team during the offseason, including two transfers and one freshman.
Redshirt freshman Lukas Escher transferred to Wagner from University of North Carolina-Wilmington after missing last season due to injury, graduate transfer Tom Lamers came over after a season at Coker University, and Ryan Szilagy arrived on Grymes Hill as a freshman.
Last season, the 7th-seeded Seahawks upset 2nd-seeded Le Moyne, 4-3, in the first round of the NEC Tournament, before falling in the semifinals to 3rd-seeded LIU, 4-1. Sophomore Eddie Schmidt secured the #2 singles point in the first round with a straight set victory, 6-4, 7-5.
After the NEC Individuals, Wagner will host Holy Cross at Flushing Meadow Park on October 4 at 1:00 pm.
