PREVIEW
Coming off consecutive convincing road wins over Bryant and Central Connecticut, and boasting the reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week
Erin Kerstetter and Defensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Fee, the Wagner women's lacrosse team concludes regular season play a pair of home games, beginning with Friday's 1:00 p.m. test vs. LIU Brooklyn.
Following Friday's matchup with the Blackbirds, the Green & White will salute their eight graduation seniors in a pre-game ceremony on Sunday prior to the 1:00 p.m. opening draw vs. CCSU.
Wagner enters this weekend's play with an 11-3 record, and a second-place, 4-1, Northeast Conference (NEC) record. The 11 victories amassed by this year's team tie the 2012 and 2018 squads for the most regular season wins in program history. The most single-season wins overall came in 2018 when the Green & White went 14-6. In LIU Brooklyn, the Seahawks will be facing a Blackbird squad that is 6-9 on the season and in a three-way tie for third in conference standings at 2-3.
In the wins over CCSU (17-6) and Bryant (15-8), the lightning-fast Kerstetter combined for six goals, three assists, 12 draw controls, 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers. In the process, the 5-2 speedster became Wagner's all-time single-season leader in draw controls with 85.
In Saturday's win over the Blue Devils, the 5-2 spark plug amassed two goals, two assists, six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Two nights earlier in the impressive 15-8 victory at Bryant, the Shamong, NJ native recorded a five-point effort with four goals and one assist, while adding six draw controls and six ground balls (both team highs).
In winning her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week award this season, Fee turned in a pair of stellar efforts in helping to spearhead the wins at Bryant and at CCSU. In the impressive 15-8 win at Bryant, which marked the largest margin of victory ever for the Seahawks over the Bulldogs, the White Plains, NY native came up with 12 saves in a route-going performance. Two days later, Fee registered four saves while allowing just four goals at CCSU. In the two victories, Fee had a posted a combined goals against average of 6.0 per game, and 16 saves (8.0 saves per game).
In addition to Kerstetter and Fee's NEC weekly honors, senior attack
Megan Drum was named a #NECPrimerPerformer for her career-high seven-goal performance at CCSU, which marked the most goals in a game by a Seahawk since April 13, 2012 when
Carolyn Clark sank seven scores vs. Bryant.
Speaking of Bryant, in a battle between teams that have faced one another in each of the last five Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship games on Thursday, Wagner came away with a solid, wire-to-wire 15-8 win. Kerstetter poured in four goals and dished out one assist, while junior attack
Stephanie Falcone and sophomore midfielder
Madeline Seims each added hat tricks.
The Seahawks' seven-goal margin of victory makes this is the most one-sided victory ever over the Bulldogs. The Seahawks' previous largest margin of victory over Bryant was in the 2016 NEC title game when Wagner came away with an 11-7 win.
The 2019 NEC Championship will take place at the home site of the regular season champion with the semifinals on Thursday May 2, followed by the championship game on May 4. With two games remaining apiece, Mount St. Mary's, the lone NEC team to beat Wagner this season, tops the league standings at 5-0, with Wagner (4-1) in second, followed by a three-way tie for third at 3-2 between Robert Morris, Bryant and LIU Brooklyn.
