Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's track and field team opened the 2019 outdoor season at the Wagner College Invitational at Hameline Field Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks had four members place among the top-15 in the 200m with freshman
Cyril Babcanec crossing the finish line first with a time of 22.77. Classmate
Nick Ferrentino was third in the event with a time of 23.56.
Sophomore
Andrew Ramsammy was sixth at 23.70 while fellow second-year Seahawk,
Keegan Reidy, placed among the top-15 with a time of 24.83.Â
Six Seahawks ranked among the top-15 in the 500m as junior
Jonathan Besselink placed fourth with a time of 15:56.79. Sophomore
Trausti Thorstein (16:00.85), freshman
Christopher Hernandez (16:01.27), junior
Robert Guidicipietro (16:08.36) and freshman
Sean Weir (16:24.12) were all among the top-ten. Junior
Alvin Sime placed inside the top-15 with a time of 16:28.55.Â
Freshman
Joshua Cadet took second in the 400m finals, checking in with a time of 50.80 while fellow newcomer,
Thomas Corel, placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:03.93. Additionally, newcomer
Mahmoud Abdalla crossed the finish line in the 1500m at 4:19.56.Â
The 4x100m relay team comprised of
Justin Mirfield, Cadet,
Brandon Brown, and Babcanec finished first overall with a time of 42.44.Â
In the high jump, Mirfield placed second with a leap of 1.80m. Ramsammy took fourth in the long jump with a soar of 6.10m.Â
Freshman
Corey Durden turned in a top-five showing in the discus, with his best throw reaching 33.73m while classmate
Michael Pepe was among the top-ten in the hammer throw with a launch of 28.19.Â
The men's outdoor track & field team will next be in action on April 13 when they compete in the 24th Annual Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, NJ.
