Women's Water Polo

No. 19 Seahawks Compete Against No. 14 Princeton On Sunday

Poughkeepsie, NY -  The No. 19 ranked Wagner women's water polo team travels to Poughkeepsie, NY to compete in a single game against the No. 14 Princeton Tigers on Sunday at 12:45 p.m.

In the most recent Collegiate Water Polo Association Week 5/February 20 Women's Varsity Poll, the Green & White sit in the No. 19 spot.

Freshman Sofia Diaz Alvarez earned two weekly honors on February 13 following her outstanding performance in the Bucknell Invite. The Spaniard tallied 20 goals and five assists in being named both the MAAC Offensive Player and Rookie of the week. Diaz Alvarez also posted a .722 shooting percentage for the weekend, helping the Seahawks defeat Saint Francis U (23-3), Gannon (17-3) and No. 24 Bucknell (13-3) before falling to No. 17 Harvard (11-10).

Scouting Princeton:
The Tigers are 5-2 thus far in the 2019 campaign, having defeated Azusa Pacific, CSU-Monterey Bay, Iona, St. Francis Brooklyn and Villanova. The two losses come from two top-ten opponents in No. 7 Arizona State and No. 10 UC Santa Barbara.

Amy Castellano leads Princeton offensively with 16 goals on the year along with 10 assists. Laura Larkin and Eliza Britt are right behind Castellano with 14 and 11 goals, respectively. Defensively, Marissa Webb has blocked 44 shots in the cage and totals a .564 save percentage for the Tigers.

Following the single game against Princeton, Wagner will be back in action on March 2-3 in Bloomington, IN for the Indiana Invitational.
